Become Scuba Certified
USF Recreation & Wellness hosts a monthly SCUBA class that is open to the general public. NAUI® Open Water Diver is the first scuba certification level. A highly-trained NAUI Instructor will teach you how to scuba dive in a relaxed, supportive learning environment. By the end of the course, you'll have the skills and knowledge to dive at home or abroad and be an ambassador for the underwater world.

Scheduling:
The SCUBA certification takes place online and in-person over 4 days. Prior to your course start, you'll have an online education module to complete (approx 10-15 hours).
Structure of Course:
- The Saturday of the first date, you'll have a classroom session covering all the materials in review.
- The following day, Saturday, you'll have a full morning & afternoon session in the pool, 8am-4pm.
- The next weekend, Saturday, you'll meet up at Lake Denton, Sebring (approximately 1hr 30min from USF) from 8am-4pm for your first open-water dives.
- The next day, Sunday, you'll meet up at Prehistoric Devil's Den, Williston (approximately 1hr 30min from USF) from 8am-4pm for the rest of your open-water dives.
Open Water Dives:
In order for a student to receive SCUBA certification they must complete five (5) Open Water Dives. These dives are done over two dates, usually occurring on the Saturday and Sunday the weekend following the first day of the course.
Equipment:
Each student must provide their own mask, fins, and snorkel.
You have the option when registering to add-on an appropriate rental set, or purchase a new, high-quality set. If you have your own gear, please bring it with your first day of certification.
USF will provide tanks, wetsuits, air, regulators, buoyancy compensators, and weights.
