Application Process & Trainings

We require all interested individuals to submit an application before being admitted to the training(s).  We expect a competitive field with only ten (10) applicants being accepted into each program.  Trainings are open to students and non-students.

Cycle Instructor

Course Information

This is a 6-week in-house program that will require you to attend weekly training classes. This process will allow you to shadow current instructors to get a hands on feel of being an instructor, along with following an online class through Schwinn Cycling Fitness. At the end of the program, you will take an exam through Schwinn Cycling to receive certification.

Prep Course Registration

Following acceptance into the Cycle prep course, you will be required to pay the course registration fee. The registration fee will include:

  • Exam voucher
  • Schwinn Cycling Fitness E-Book
  • Online study modules
  • Schwinn Cycling Fitness study guide
  • Practice exam
  • 30+ hours of in-class & hands-on learning

Group Fitness Instructor

Course Information

ACE Fitness offers NCCA-accredited certifications for personal trainers and group fitness instructors. The course offered here for group fitness will 1) prepare participants to take and pass their ACE Group Fitness exam and 2) increase your confidence in leading group classes. Online modules will supplement in-person instruction and will cover anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and much more. Upon completion of the course, interested students will have the opportunity to interview and audition for a position with Recreation & Wellness.

Personal Trainer

Course Information

Learn the knowledge and skills necessary to become a certified personal trainer! This course will provide both lecture style and practical experience to prepare you for a nationally recognized certification exam. Topics include basic and functional anatomy, applied exercise physiology, program design principles, form and technique instruction, client interaction, and nutritional concepts. Practical sessions will apply concepts covered in the lecture and serve to prepare students to work one-on-one with clients. 


This course will cover the cost of the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) exam. In addition, students will receive online learning modules, study guides, textbooks, and practice exams. Completion of the prep course does not guarantee employment with Recreation & Wellness. Participants who are seeking an employment opportunity will need to apply, interview, and obtain the required certification(s) to be considered.

Employment with usf recwell

Completion of this course does not guarantee employment with USF Recreation & Wellness. Interested students must apply and participate in the interview process for consideration for employment. Non-students who earn their certification are not eligible for employment at USF.
