I am a resilience and resistance interdisciplinary scholar using data-driven and human-centric
methodologies to analyze intrastate conflict ranging from nonviolent protest through
belligerency. My disciplines include history, military science and international relations.
I currently work as a Senior Research Fellow with Global and National Security Institute
at ßÙßÇÂþ».
Prior to my role at GNSI: From 2020-2024, I taught irregular warfare at Joint Special Operations University.
Additionally, I am the former editor-in-chief of special operations doctrine. Previously,
I also taught history at U.S. Naval Academy. A retired Marine with combat experience,
I am an Asia-Pacific expert with 12 years living and working in Japan, Korea, Philippines,
and Thailand, as well as a diplomatic tour at the U.S. Embassy in Australia.
Flashback to 10 years old. What did you want to be when you grew up?

What's the most "interesting" thing you've done that most people don't know about?
I was interviewed by World Media Rights on the Battle of Iwo Jima for Netflix Series
World War II In HD Color, which was released in December 2021. Yes, I’m on Netflix.
Favorite musician/genre of music?
My favorite band growing up was AC/DC. Saw them in concert twice.
Where are you originally from? What was your first job?
I’m from a small country town of Yreka, California. My first job was at a grocery
store.
What books are you currently reading?
Many! I’m on a history book award prize committee, which allows me to review about
20 books a year.
What's your favorite sport, team, athlete or "thing" where you could be President
of the Fan Club?
Buccaneers! Go Bucs! But USF Bulls of course.
