General (Ret) Kenneth F. “Frank” McKenzie, Jr. became the Executive Director of the ’s Global and National Security Institute in May 2022. In July 2022, he also became the Executive Director of the Florida Center for Cybersecurity, also known as Cyber Florida.
He is the former Commander of United States Central Command, retiring from that post in March 2022, capping off a 42-year career in the U.S. Marine Corps. He is currently the President of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Applied Engineering at the , a Distinguished Senior Fellow on National Security at the Middle East Institute, a Member of the International Advisory Committee of the National Council on U.S. Arab relations, and a Member of the National Security Advisory Council, U.S. Global Leadership Coalition.
Jim Cardoso is the Senior Director for the ’s Global and National Security Institute, assuming this role in July 2022. He directs all aspects of the daily operations of GNSI, as well as assisting the Executive Director in formalizing the mission, vision and priorities for GNSI, while formulating the strategy for our first five years.
Before coming to GNSI, Cardoso was Senior Manager for CAE, which specializes in modeling and simulation for the Department of Defense. Previously, he served 30 years in the U.S. Air Force, the majority in special operations command, staff, and operational roles, retiring as a Colonel. My last Air Force assignment was Professor of Aerospace Studies and Commander of the Air Force ROTC detachment at USF, from 2014-2018.
Cardoso holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the U.S. Air Force Academy, and master’s degrees in Strategic Studies from National Defense University and in Aviation Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
