Emphasis on Arts Integration at USF's Sarasota-Manatee campus

Our emphasis on an arts integration approach to effective teaching makes receiving an education degree from the ßÙßÇÂþ» Sarasota-Manatee campus distinctive.

Arts-integrated education emphasizes highly engaging teaching methods that incorporate elements of the arts to meet the varied instructional needs of diverse learners. Research-based approaches to arts integration employ teaching practices that demonstrably improve comprehension and long-term retention.

Under the leadership of Helene Robinson, the Sarasota-Manatee campus arts integration coordinator, and in collaboration with the Florida Center for Partnerships in Arts-Integrated Teaching (PAInT), pre-service teachers develop knowledge and skills in effective arts integration pedagogy through methodology proven to increase student self-management and create an environment in which students feel empowered to create.

As part of their clinical experience, pre-service teachers create and implement arts integration lessons at selected partner schools. The final clinical experience culminates with an action-research project in which pre-service teachers use arts-integrated methodology to plan, design, implement and evaluate student learning outcomes related to an identified content skill.
