Academic Year Program
During the school year, UBP & UBMS students attend tutoring, instruction, and academic support activities at the USF Tampa campus for 18 Saturdays and after school. Students receive assistance with all their academic classes and participate in seminars, campus tours, and other developmental activities that will prepare them for postsecondary education. Academic advisors also meet with students at their target school as well as in the UB office to provide support services.
Summer Residential Program
During the six-week summer component on the USF campus, students are exposed to a variety of educational, cultural, and social experiences. UBP & UBMS provide:
- Group and individualized instruction in math, laboratory science, literature, composition, and Spanish
- Small class sizes
- Counseling, mentoring, cultural enrichment, recreational activities, and career exploration
- Three-weeks residential experience for juniors and seniors
- Career Internships with interactive labs, research experiences, seminars, and career guidance
Upward Bound Math & Science (UBMS) Additional Services
UBMS provides these additional services to participants:
- Intensive instruction in mathematics and science, including hands-on experience in laboratories, in computer facilities, and at field-sites
- Activities that will provide participants with opportunities to learn from mathematicians and scientists who are engaged in research and teaching at the applicant institution, or who are engaged in research or applied science at hospitals, governmental laboratories, or other public and private agencies
- Activities that will involve participants with graduate and undergraduate science and mathematics majors who may serve as tutors and counselors for participants
