About ROTC
Army ROTC is an elective curriculum you can take in addition to your required college courses and concludes with becoming commissioned as an Officer in the Army. The program provides tools, training and leadership opportunities, several monetary benefits to include tuition, fees, room and board, book stipend, and a monthly stipend.
Army ROTC not only helps prepare you for success in the military but in any competitive environment for Cadets participate in ROTC academic classes that introduce one to the overall structure and nature to the U.S Army, leadership laboratories, physical readiness training (PT), and different summer training programs.
Being a college elective, students can choose to take the course for the first two military science (MSI - MSII) years without incurring any military obligation. If one decides they are up to the challenge though, they can continue into MSIII and MSIV year while completing their degree.
Once students graduate, they will then be commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army as active duty, Army Reserve or National Guard.
The weekly military science schedule for an Army ROTC Cadet encompasses a number of things:
- Physical training (PT) is done throughout the week amongst different MS levels from 0630 to 0730 on the basketball courts (TS3) located by the CWY building.
- Leadership labs on Thursdays from 1400 (2:00PM) to 1600 (4:00 PM).
- Their military science academic class or classes.
- Once a semester, Cadets do at least FTX (field training event) which are conducted in Camp Blanding.
This program is not for everyone and everyone is not for this program. However, when students do decide to join Army ROTC and commit to serving in the U.S Army after college, they are joining a fraternity that lasts a long life time.
