For Campus Partners
First Year Team
The First Year team is committed to assisting and supporting first time in college (FTIC) students from their matriculation through their first year in college. First Year advocates begin working with a cohort of FTIC students from their first week of enrollment through their second fall semester.
Our First Year advocates have ample knowledge on the barriers students encounter onboarding and transitioning through their first year of their college experience. Our team support students in various ways, from navigating academics to finding their sense of belonging on campus. We work closely with our advising community, New Student Connections, Housing, Academic Success Center, and wellness resources to support students in their first year as they transition to college.
Initiatives
The First Year team supports two initiatives tied to institutional and state metrics. Our team works towards a first year retention rate for FTIC students of 91% and the Academic Progress Rate (APR) of FTIC students with a GPA above 2.0 of 90%.
Future Initiatives
First Year advocates recognize each cohort may face unique challenges based on the environment and what may be happening around them during their first year in college. We are currently working on improving the APR of our students by providing additional support and resources to those who may be concerned with renewing their scholarships and remaining eligible for Financial Aid in their second academic year.
