Water for people: "We're Working to Reach Everyone Forever."

Here in America, we consistently have access to clean water. This is unfortunately not the case for the 2.1 billion people around the world who do not have access to safe water and the 4.5 billion who lack access to adequate sanitation. In many parts of the world, women and children spend more than four hours walking to obtain water each day, and more than 840,000 people die each year from water-related diseases. Water For People is an international nonprofit that works across 9 countries (Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Peru, Bolivia, Uganda, Rwanda, Malawi, and India) to bring safe water and sanitation to 4 million people.
Water For People was founded in 1991 by the American Water Works Association (AWWA), the largest nonprofit dedicated to managing and treating water. The goal of the WFP is to help people in developing countries to improve their quality of life by supporting the development of locally sustainable drinking water resources and sanitation facilities. From building wells, to installing toilets, and setting up pumps, Water For People helps out in any way they can.
WFP cares about the long-term, sustainable change by partnering with individuals, communities, and governments who bring labor, skills, and investments to the project. While creating systems that will last for future generations, WFP focuses on building capacity so communities are able to finance and maintain the systems after the building is complete. Water For People commits to monitoring until water service is sustainable and monitored by the local service authority for at least 10 years after the infrastructure is built.
