Biography
Marion Becker is an Emeritus Professor in the School of Social Work. Dr Becker is a psychiatric nurse with a graduate degree in gerontology and a Ph.D. in Social Welfare from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her research focuses on quality of care and quality of life outcomes for vulnerable populations, with a particular emphasis on older adults with co-occurring mental and physical health disorders. Dr. Becker has served as PI or Co-PI on numerous outcome studies, including the Women, Co-occurring Disorders and Violence Study jointly funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the National Center for Substance Abuse Treatment and the Center for Mental Health Services. She conducts treatment effectiveness studies and is experienced at secondary analysis of large data sets including Medicare and Medicaid administrative data. Dr. Becker is the co-editor of Women's Mental Health: A Public Health perspective. Dr Becker was awarded the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) Research Award for development of the Wisconsin Quality of Life Index and her seminal research on quality of life outcomes in mental health.
