Spatial Hearing Systems
The laboratory features two 24-loudspeaker arrays, head-tracking systems, each housed in separate variable-degree reverberation sound treated booths for advanced spatial hearing research. The laboratory has extensive custom and commercial software for experimental design and execution including TDT SykofizX and a series of custom interfaces designed in MATLAB. We also use virtual spatial environments based on head-related transfer functions (HRTFs) and headphone sound presentation. To track head movement during free-field listening and to allow gesture responses, we have real-time headtracking systems based on infra-red camera technology. For visual cuing, simulated conversation, and visual feedback, we have small video monitors mounted just below the speaker drivers.
