You can pursue graduate studies in art history from the Renaissance to the present in the fields of African, American, European, Middle Eastern, and Asian art at the ßÙßÇÂþ» School of Art & Art History. Here you will receive individual attention from an active, award-winning research faculty, who expose students to the most recent approaches in the field.
We see art history as an integral part of social and cultural history in a global context. Our Master of Arts (MA) program is unique in featuring small, writing-intensive seminar-style courses emphasizing critical theory and interdisciplinary approaches. Students engage in advanced research on current issues in art history as they immerse themselves in the study of art and visual culture.
Coursework can be supplemented by international travel and study abroad programs sponsored by the school. Additional art history courses are available through our
consortium with the University of Florida. MA students may take graduate seminars
offered at UF, and UF graduate students participate in our classes at USF. Students
are also encouraged to take graduate seminars in related disciplines such as Africana
studies, history, literature, philosophy, religious studies, and women's and gender
studies.
The school maintains strong links with area museums that facilitate internships and
future employment for our students. Our M.A. in Art History program provides an excellent
foundation in graduate-level art-historical analysis, research, and writing. As the
achievements of our alumni demonstrate, our program is an outstanding springboard for either continuing graduate
studies (PhD) or professional work in a variety of art-related fields.
The Master of Arts (MA) in Art History is a two-year program of study that requires
a minimum of 38 credit hours to complete.
