Bio
As a Ph.D. candidate in Politics and International Affairs at the School of Interdisciplinary Global Studies, I have taught various courses at the Judy Genshaft Honors College. These courses have focused on global politics and social justice and include, Global Queer Social Movements, Global Political Violence, Remote Cosmopolitanism: How to Survive a Global Pandemic?, Beyond the Border: Global Migration, Human Rights, and Queer Theory. In recognition of my teaching on queer theory, I was awarded the Black Faculty of the Year by the Honors College. I have also taught general courses, such as American National Government, and Introduction to Political Science.
My primary field of specialization is International Relations, with a focus on American Foreign Policy, Racial Politics, Social Movements, Genocide, and Queer Studies. In my dissertation titled, "Domestic Sources of Foreign Policy: The 1994 Clinton Administration Response to the Crises in Rwanda and Haiti,鈥� I compare the Clinton Administration鈥檚 1994 prompt decision to intervene in Haiti and its slow intervention in Rwandan genocide. I argue that the suppression of the news media, interest groups, and public opinion can strongly determine when the US government does and does not intervene in humanitarian crises. Given my broad training in International Relations, American Government, and Comparative Politics, I also remain interested in exploring the role of queer politics in American Foreign Policy.
