October 15: "Writing in Spanish in the United States”
On Friday, October 15th from 6-8 pm via Teams we will have our third installment of our semester series “Writing in Spanish in the United States”, with writers Jennifer Thorndike, Hernán Vera Alvarez, and Gastón Virkel. Topics include the writers’ latest works, the Miami literary scene, immigration, diaspora and identity in literature and, of course, writing in Spanish in the United States.

October 20 at 7:30pm: Dr. Robert Bullard, "Confluences of Environmental and Climate Justice: Bringing Diverse Partners Together for Community Resilience” presented by iCAR (Initiative on Coastal Adaptation and Resilience). Hispanic Heritage Month Events
Hispanic Heritage Month is observed from September 15th through October 15th by celebrating the histories, cultures, and contributions of the Hispanic and Latinx communities whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, as well as Central and South America.
The mission of Hispanic Heritage Month is to provide students with the opportunity to experience and become immersed within the Hispanic and Latinx culture through various points of reference that will enhance their education, social, and ability to become mature global citizens.
Latinx is an inclusive term to encompass all genders represented in the Latin community in addition to individuals who identify as Latina/Latino.

and The Well at our HAPpy to be Hispanic Poetry Slam! Recite poetry in either Spanish
or English to show your appreciation of Hispanic Culture and what it means to you.
You can choose to come up with your own poem or recite one from your favorite poet.
The event will take place on September 21st at 5:30pm at the USF WELL courtyard. Prepackaged
snacks will be provided. The WELL will be providing promotional items to students
who participate in the poetry slam. We hope to see you there.
