Once per semester, OGS facilitates an ETD Workshop to help students navigate the entire ETD process. This workshop provides critical information including:

  • an overview of the registration and publishing process
  • a review of submission deadlines and requirements
  • student and faculty responsibilities
  • use of Microsoft Word and other software
  • basic formatting requirements for the manuscript
  • time management tips
  • resources to assist in the preparation and completion of the ETD

Preparing for the Process Workshop
  1. Review the previous recording or slides above.
  2. Review the entire ETD Resource Center, paying close attention to:
  3. Review General Formatting - Margins, Fonts, Headings, Line Spacing, Page Numbering, etc.
  4. Review Section Specific Formatting - Table of Contents, Lists, etc.
  5. Carefully review the guidelines and view provided examples of format.

ETD FORMATTING WORKSHOPS (weekly)

Sessions alternate weekly between Tuesday 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM and Wednesday 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM. These are meant to help students who drop-in with ETD-specific formatting. Ends November 5, 2024, check available dates below.

ETD Process Workshop vs. Formatting Workshops vs. 1-on-1 Help Sessions

What's the difference? 1-on-1 Help Sessions and Formatting Workshops are not a substitute for the ETD Process Workshop (required). They are three completely different services. The ETD Process Workshop covers all aspects of the process from Registration to Review and must be attended by all Graduate students completing a Thesis or Dissertation. 

鉁�ETD Process Workshop (required)

Description

The ETD Workshop is a full overview of the ETD process and the ETD requirements, and it is offered one time per semester. The past Process Workshop materials linked on this page are always available online as an asynchronous alternative.

All thesis master's and doctoral students must plan to attend an ETD Workshop during the semester of their graduation. It is important to be familiar with the information before editing the final version of the thesis/dissertation. 

A lack of familiarity with USF's process and institutional guidelines can result in missing a registration step, which can result in not being processed, or a need for extensive revisions, which can result in an additional $25 fee.

猸�Formatting Workshops (weekly)

Description

猸�1-on-1 Help Sessions

Description

Help Sessions allow students to meet with an ETD Specialist for 15 minutes via TEAMS. Students commonly ask general questions, ask for help with a specific formatting issue in the document, or ask us to perform a quick review of common mistakes.

While researching, students make use of a wealth of different resources, such as published articles, books, images, software, and datasets.  Many of these resources are protected by intellectual property laws like copyright.  This session will introduce common copyright issues encountered during the research, publication, and writing of theses and dissertations.

Writing Wednesdays 鉁忥笍

Wednesdays, Weekly | 3:00 - 5:00 PM | ALN 296

"Writing Wednesdays" are scheduled 3 PM - 5 PM each Wednesday, in the John and Grace Allen Building (ALN), Room 296. 

Description: Being intentional and consistent about writing will help you progress and meet your goals. Whether it's a journal article or a fellowship/grant, your dissertation, your proposal, or a scholarship/award application, please come join your peers in a time of dedicated writing.

Light refreshments (coffee, water, snacks (pretzels, popcorn, cookies, etc.) will be provided to participants.
