ßÙßÇÂþ»­ Signature Research Doctoral Fellowship

Application/Nomination Process:

Direct from the doctoral candidate. A letter of recommendation from your major professor and a 500 word description of the dissertation project is requested. The award is for two years, contingent upon available funding.

The description of the dissertation project should present an abstract of your research prospectus (not to exceed 500 words):

  • Purpose, Objective, and Rationale: This section should summarize your study accurately and concisely by explaining the overall purpose of the study and the research problem you intend to investigate.
  • Methods: Clearly and precisely describe your intended methodology and procedures and why you have selected these particular approaches. This should summarize the basic design of your study. Your study should follow the accepted paradigms, discourses, and current approaches in your field.
  • Major Findings: Specify how your work will contribute to your field of study, how it will answer your research questions, and the overall impact of your study in your academic area.
  • Timeframe: Specify the timeline in which your project will occur and develop time limits for individual components of your project.
Selection Process: The Policy/Fellowship committee of the Graduate Council will review the candidates, rank the applications, and make the award selections.
Award Specifics:
  • Stipend: $20,000 per year (up to two years), plus a full-time tuition waiver & payment of student fees.
  • Health Insurance: ßÙßÇÂþ»­ Student Health Insurance will be provided for individual coverage for the duration of the award.
  • Conference Travel: Recipients will receive up to $600 each year of the fellowship to support attendance at a state, regional, national or international discipline-related academic conference in which the Fellow is presenting.
Eligibility:
  • Recipients must be enrolled full time in order to be eligible for this award. Individual departments may top off this award to make the stipend comparable to the other students in their department.
  • Must be already admitted to candidacy.
  • Demonstrated record of sustained progress toward the degree.
  • The proposed research must be in one of the ßÙßÇÂþ»­ signature research areas:
    • Integrated Neurosciences
    • Sustainability of populations and/or environment
    • Diabetes and autoimmune disorders
    • Drug Design and Delivery
