Starting this fall, the (USF) College of Education will offer a new graduate certificate in Big Data and Learning Analytics.

The graduate certificate will help students discover how to leverage data to promote student success. The program’s curriculum will prepare teachers, administrators, faculty, policymakers and educational researchers to effectively use data in educational planning, evaluation and assessment to understand and optimize student learning.

“The amount of data that is collected about students today is overwhelming — from course management systems to performance metrics to campus activities,” said Amber Dumford, PhD, professor of higher education and college student affairs and coordinator for the certificate program. “The Big Data and Learning Analytics graduate certificate will help students discover how to leverage all that data to promote student success inside and outside of the classroom.”

The certificate requires 12 credits of coursework, including three required classes and an elective course in either data assessment and accreditation or game analytics for learning. Coursework completed through the certificate can be applied to numerous graduate degree programs in the College of Education.

Students seeking admission to a USF graduate certificate program must hold a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution and meet USF’s graduate admissions and English proficiency requirements.

To apply to the graduate certificate program, please visit or contact Amber Dumford for more information.
