Title: Assistant Professor of Instruction

Aaron Norton is an Assistant Professor of Instruction in the Department of Mental Health Law and Policy. He earned his Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from USF in 2021, his M.A. in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling from USF in 2007, and his B.A. in Psychology from USF in 2002. He taught as an adjunct instructor in USF’s Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling program from 2013 to 2022. He is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, Certified Master Addiction Counselor, and Certified Forensic Mental Health Evaluator. He serves as the Southern Regional Director of the American Mental Health Counselors Association, Chair of Government Relations Committee and Education Committee for the Florida Mental Health Counselors Association, and Chair of Legislative Committee for the Suncoast Mental Health Counselors Association. He has 20 years of clinical experience as a psychotherapist and a forensic evaluator.
His primary research interests involve the recognition and understanding of the role of clinician bias within the mental health professions and professional advocacy for clinical mental health counselors.
