Timothy Boaz is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mental Health Law and Policy. He earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Kansas in 1986 and completed his Clinical Psychology Pre-Doctoral Internship training in behavioral medicine and neuropsychology at the Brown University Program in Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine in Providence, RI. He was a member of the faculty in the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology at the University of Florida from 1984 - 1989, and he has been on the faculty at USF/FMHI since 1989. He is also a Licensed Psychologist in the State of Florida.
His primary research interests involve the use of administrative data sets in mental health policy research, prescribing practices for psychotherapeutic medications, and evaluation of public mental health programs. Recent projects have focused on factors associated with readmission to inpatient treatment, quality of prescribing of antipsychotic medication, and continuity of care for persons being discharged from institutional treatment facilities.
