ASHA
The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) is the national professional, scientific and credentialing association for audiologists, speech-language pathologists, hearing scientists, students and support staff. ASHA's vision is: "Making effective communication, a human right, accessible and achievable for all." As part of this vision, ASHA seeks to provide resources to clients, families of these clients, speech-language pathologists and students. ASHA is also responsible for certifying that every speech language pathologist has met the requirements to receive the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP). Obtaining a Certificate of Clinical Competence demonstrates a level of excellence in the field of speech language pathology. All of the speech-language pathologists at USF have earned their Certificate of Clinical Competence. Above and beyond receiving the Certificate of Clinical Competence, a speech-language pathologists may seek additional certification for advanced knowledge, skill and experience in specialty areas. These speech-language pathologists with this certification are known as Board Certified Specialists (BCS) in their specific area of clinical practice. The areas in which speech-language pathologists can receive their BCS include child language and language disorders, fluency and fluency disorders, and swallowing and swallowing disorders. Several of our speech-language pathologists at USF have also been recognized as Board Certified Specialists.
FLASHA
The Florida Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists, FLASHA,
is Florida's state association of speech-language pathologists and audiologists that
seek to serve these professionals by providing support, opportunities for professional
growth, and public awareness and advocacy of issues related to the highest quality
care for the individuals they serve.
