Kimberly Read is Assistant Chair of Operations for the Department of Child & Family Studies at USF. She has worked at USF for almost twenty-five years, garnering extensive experience in business, research administration, and human resources. She received her PhD from USF in higher education administration and holds an MBA from the University of Maryland. She also received a BA in psychology from USF and has been awarded an outstanding alumni of that program. She has been a Certified Research Administrator since 2010 and is a notary public.

Dr. Read is a member of the Child & Family Studies Leadership team. She supervises the administrative team of twenty-six employees. She oversees CFS鈥檚 financial portfolio, which includes three revenue-generating auxiliary accounts, two cost-recovery programs, two education and general revenue budgets, research initiative accounts, 15 Foundation accounts, and 60+ grants and contracts. Dr. Read directs the department鈥檚 human resources for over 250 employees across three research divisions and four academic programs. She also supports the academic programs, including six certificates, two undergraduate minors, four master鈥檚, and a PhD degree. She directs the department鈥檚 research administration, including research development and pre- and post-award work. She also coordinates communication and marketing for the department.

Dr. Read has over ten years of university-level teaching experience as an adjunct instructor for undergraduate first-year students, teaching University Experience and Academic Foundations. She also teaches an undergraduate core curriculum course, Critical Thinking: Foundations of Interdisciplinary Knowledge and Inquiry, as part of the Summer Academic and Cultural Engagement Program (ACE).

Dr. Read has been a member of the Society for Research Administrators International (SRAI) since 2010. She regularly presents at SRAI annual and section meetings and leads SRAI webinars. In June 2022, Dr. Read received the SRAI Distinguished Faculty Award. In 2023, she served as the President of the SRAI Southern section. She serves on the Catalyst Committee and was appointed pre-award editor for 2025. The Catalyst is a monthly publication for SRAI.
