Kimberly Read is Assistant Chair of Operations for the Department of Child & Family Studies at USF. She has worked at USF for over twenty years, garnering extensive experience in business, research administration, and human resources. She received her PhD from USF in higher education administration, and she holds an MBA from the University of Maryland. She also received a BA in psychology from USF and has been awarded an outstanding alumni of that program. She has been a Certified Research Administrator since 2010, and she is a notary republic.
Dr. Read serves as a member of the Child & Family Studies Leadership team. She supervises the administrative team of fourteen employees and gives oversight to CFS’s financial portfolio, which includes three revenue-generating auxiliary accounts, a cost-recovery program, an education and general revenue budget, research initiative accounts, 15 Foundation accounts, and 60+ grants and contracts. Dr. Read directs the department’s human resources for 243 employees across three research divisions and four academic programs. She also provides support for the academic programs, including six certificates, two undergraduate minors, four master’s, and a PhD degree. She directs the department’s research administration, including identification of potential funding opportunities, development of documentation and budgets, submission of grant applications, setup of new awards, post-award financial management, and award close-outs.
Dr. Read has ten years of university-level teaching experience, having served as an adjunct instructor for undergraduate freshman teaching University Experience and Academic Foundations. She also teaches an undergraduate core curriculum course, Critical Thinking: Foundations of Interdisciplinary Knowledge and Inquiry as part of the Summer Academic and Cultural Engagement Program (ACE).
Dr. Read has been a member of the Society for Research Administrators International (SRAI) for the past thirteen years. She regularly presents at SRAI section meetings, leads SRAI webinars, and serves on a team that twice yearly presents the Fundamentals of Research Administration. Currently, Dr. Read is the President of the SRAI Southern section, and she serves on the Catalyst Committee. The Catalyst is a monthly publication for SRAI.
