Research Interests:

Person-centered planning; positive behavior support; disabilities; school and systems change


Don Kincaid is a professor in the Department of Child & Family Studies at the University of South Florida and Director of The , a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities. His professional interests include the areas of person-centered planning, positive behavior support, disabilities, and school and systems change.

He is a Primary Investigator or Co-Primary Investigator on a number of Positive Behavior Support Projects including:

  • Florida Positive Behavior Support Project, the Florida Center for Inclusive Communities
  • ßÙßÇÂþ»­â€™s subcontract with the Center for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, an Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP)-funded grant
  • Florida Center for Inclusive Communities
  • Florida’s School Climate Transformation grant, and
  • Florida AWARE Project. 

All of these projects integrate school-based positive behavior interventions and support within a multi-tiered support system framework. Much of his professional activity involves coordinating systems change efforts at a local, state and national level to support the implementation of evidence-based practices.  Additionally, he serves on a number of editorial and advisory boards in the area of positive behavior support. 

Dr. Kincaid came to the PBS Project from West Virginia University where he served as the Deputy Director of the University Affiliated Center for Developmental Disabilities for 10 years. While in West Virginia, Dr. Kincaid directed a number of state and federal PBS Projects including the Life Quilters Project, the Tri-State Consortium for PBS, the Regional Collaborative for PBS, the Lifespan PBS Project, the School-Based PBS Project and the Crisis Intervention Network.
