USF ABA Program Faculty and Students Present at Inaugural Pan African Congress on Autism in Nairobi, Kenya
The is an international organization which aims to combat stigma and increase access to therapy support services for individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) throughout the African continent. Represented by a highly passionate coalition of professionals, parents, and individuals with ASD, PACA advocates for culturally responsive diagnosis, education, and evidence-base interventions across Africa.
Dr. Kwang-Sun Blair and advisees Ashley Knochel and Rachel Sofarelli presented two papers on evidence-based interventions in ABA and the importance of cultural adaptations during the inaugural conference held in Nairobi, Kenya from April 27- 29, 2019. During the interactive presentations, they had the opportunity to exchange ideas with global leaders on ways to culturally adapt Westernized ABA procedures to meet the needs of clients and families in African contexts. There were over 20 African nations represented with over 200 people in attendance.
