Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship Recipients to Study Abroad in China
Two Muma College of Business students have been awarded the chance to study abroad as Gilman Scholars this summer. Michelle Tjahjono and Austin-James Cox will study Chinese language and culture with the USF Chinese Learning in the Culture: Tier 1 program.
Tjahjono is a sophomore majoring in international business, working toward an internship abroad. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Psi where she serves as the assistant vice president of alumni relations. In the fall, she will begin her term as the vice president of operations for the organization.
Cox is also a student of business, with an interest in international corporate law. He plans to intern in China and then pursue a Juris Doctorate degree.
Gilman scholars are identified by the Office of National Scholarship, which selects high-achieving students from all disciplines. Students chosen for this award are creative, motivated, and academically strong leaders in and out of the classroom. Recipients receive up to $5,000 to apply to study abroad costs and have an opportunity to gain understanding of other cultures, languages, and economies. The Gilman scholarship prepares students to assume leadership roles, and includes a follow-on project for recipients to share information about the program with their university and community.
