Abstract
The world is filled with challenging and wicked problems. DSR as a research method that can help us to find solutions to those problems and have an impact in today’s world. Prof. Chatterjee’s lab has been at the forefront of designing several innovative technologies and applications that have assisted patients to live healthy and age in place with technology support. In this talk he will reflect on the past and current trajectory of DSR in IS. Has the community become too theory fetish? He will also shed light on the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead and how the next generation IS students can build innovative artifacts using DSR.
Short Biography
Samir Chatterjee is a Professor and Fletcher Jones Chair of Technology Management and Design at Claremont Graduate University. He has published over 160 peer reviewed articles in IS and Computer Science area. He serves as co-EIC of Health Systems journal. He is currently on the editorial board of JAIS and has served as AE on MISQ and several IEEE/ACM journals. He is the author of the best-selling book on Design Research in Information Systems and is the founding father of the DESRIST conference. He regularly serves as chair or member of the technical program committee on numerous IEEE, ACM and AIS conferences. His research has been heavily funded by NSF, MDTRC, Georgia Research Council, Loma Linda Hospital, Northrop Grumman, and The California Endowment. He is Founder & President of DCL, a wireless healthcare startup. When he is not doing science and design, he is an avid musician and composer. In 2021, his debut new age album under his stage name of Samir Bodhi made it to the Grammy ballots for nomination. He lives in Southern California with his wife and son.
