Professor Michael Halflants Elevated to the American Institute of Architects' College of Fellows

Congratulations Michael Halflants, tenured professor at the , for being the first FAIA member on the School of Architecture and Community Design’s (SACD) faculty. At the USF, he teaches graduate design studios, urban design, tropical design, and modern housing as well as cofounding his own architecture and design firm Halflants + Pichette. Robert M. MacLeod, AIA, and SACD Director & Professor notes this significant honor in that “only 3% of architects have this designation and he is also quite young to be made a fellow.”

The press release from AIA states that “Design Principal Michael Halflants was elevated to the American Institute of Architects’ College of Fellows. AIA Fellows are recognized with the AIA’s highest membership honor for their exceptional work and contributions to architecture and society. Each year, less than one in one thousand registered architects are selected by a national committee of past recipients. Michael Halflants was elevated based on the design work that he completed as a principal of Halflants + Pichette Architects since cofounding the firm in 2006 with John Pichette. Architects are elevated to the College of Fellows for their contributions to design, teaching, or service. This year, only twenty-two architects across the US were admitted to the fellowship based on their design contributions to the profession. He will be formally inducted in Philadelphia in June at the American Institute of Architects’ national convention.”

According to their website, “Halflants + Pichette is an award winning modern design-build studio with offices in Sarasota and Tampa. Our goal is to create thoughtful, high quality modern architecture that respond to context and function. Our approach to modern architecture is process-oriented and deliberately avoids preconceived solutions. Halflants + Pichette provides a range of services that include architectural design, interior design, master planning, and full construction services.” Their innovative designs and thoughtful processes helping achieve this high honor.
