Beginning this month, Tampa Bay classical music listeners can rejoice in a new show hosted by a familiar voice.

Tyler Kline, an alumnus of the graduate composition program at the School of Music, hosts “Modern Notebook,” a radio program that highlights music composed from 1945 to today, and explores the endless spectrum of classical music styles, sounds, and techniques that is acknowledged collectively as “contemporary classical music.”

Each week, listeners will experience a variety of music ranging from solo works to modern orchestral masterworks and everything in between. Kline will also spotlight events by local organizations presenting contemporary music in the Tampa Bay and Sarasota communities.

Kline is no stranger to bringing contemporary classical to new audiences. In 2016, he co-founded concert series with fellow School of Music alumna Susanna Hancock. Terroir concerts pair contemporary classical music performances with food and drink from local restaurants and breweries. In August 2019, Kline announced Terroir New Music will expand to his home state of Kentucky while continuing to operating in Tampa Bay.

A composer himself, Kline received a Masters of Music in Composition from the University of South Florida in 2015. His music has been performed across the United States, and internationally in Asia, Europe, and South America.

“Modern Notebook” airs Sundays at 8 p.m. on Classical WSMR 89.1 FM and 103.9 FM. You can also tune in to Kline's other show, “Evenings With Tyler Kline,” a radio show dedicated to playing classical music favorites every day of the week. Visit for more.
