Maggie Winter is a trained architect, urbanist, and educator. She joins the School of Art and Art History from within CDAP after working as Assistant Research Professor at the Florida Center for Community Design + Research and instructor in the School of Architecture and Community Design.

Maggie has earned degrees in Environmental Studies (Bachelor of Arts) from University of California at Santa Cruz, a Master of Architecture from the University of Washington in Seattle, and a Master of Urban and Community Design from the University of South Florida. She has current licensure in the State of Texas, with a portfolio that spans public and private sectors in Texas, California, Utah, and Florida.

In practice, research, and teaching, Maggie explores the ways in which design is a tool to advocate for equity in the built and natural environment. Her extensive experience in community engagement and multi-disciplinary coordination helps bring diverse stakeholders toward a mutual understanding of complex systems and toward a tangible consensus of priorities. She works to integrate student learning opportunities with professional project delivery and implementable research inquiries through design and critical thinking. Maggie's research interests include community-centered architecture and urbanism, design as a tool for democratizing communication, and shifting narratives from static to dynamic systems as they relate to the occupation of space and resources.
