Hello, my name is Andrew Bird, and I have been at ßÙßÇÂþ» since 2009. First, as a graduate student in the Department of History and then as an academic advisor since 2013. I advise for the Departments of Philosophy, Religious Studies, and World Languages. Although I advise for several areas on campus, I am readily available for student appointments and email communication.
I first earned a series of B.A. degrees (History, Humanities- Religious Studies Track, and Anthropology) at the University of Central Florida before serving in the United States Air Force. After being honorably discharged, I earned my M.A. degree at USF in Ancient History and Classics. My time at USF has been a rich and rewarding experience, and I am proud to have a career where I can help students find academic and professional success.
My approach to advising is rooted in the holistic. It is my goal to assist students in more ways than simply figuring out what classes to take next. I carefully consider the students entire academic record, looking for ways in which I might be able to offer help, whether it be talking about their career goals or pointing them towards campus resources. I want students to leave my office with the impression that they got more than what they expected when they first arrived. I want them to feel that I truly care about not just their schedule, but also about them as individuals with goals and dreams. I want them to consider me a resource regarding University policies, procedures, and campus resources, and as a personal advocate. To put it simply, I want them to feel as if they have someone in their corner who is genuinely interested in their success rather than someone from whom they can receive a directionless map.
